About Twisted Stitches

Having started as a traditional wool shop with my mum, my creativity and curiosity blossomed and I wanted to know how yarn was produced. I strated spinning my own yarn, not really being able to bear the thought of letting it go to someone else. Eventually, the size of my house dictated, that I need to start selling some of these little squishy bundles. Hence Twisted Stitches was born, these sold very well and I couldn't really keep up - although the spinning wheel hasn't quite retired.

So I started looking at produced yarns. I really wanted to concentrate on the finer manufactured yarns from our own country and sourced British and where ever possible organic. I love the natural hues our different breeds of sheep produce, as well as the differing handle they all have. Someone asked for a bit of colour - so I started hand dyeing too. This I love and so tend to concentrate more on the hand-painted and sploshy and sprinkly. I still tend to just use British yarns and have a lovely mill on the doorstep in beautiful Yorkshire. As industries dwindle, I think it is important to support the surviving businesses as much as we can against the onslaught of cheap Chinese imports.

And so the artisan yarn hand-dyed in small batches inspired from the view from my window onto the rolling Yorkshire countryside. I will be selling at craft fairs up and down the length of the country and stocking in Topwools of Barnsley (my little wool shop), also watch out for us popping up in several co-operatives and collectives around Yorkshire too.
